Based on the trailers for the upcoming GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, it appears everyone’s favorite giant, city-leveling lizard will have to earn his mighty crown by defeating several other massive creatures in an epic showdown. The ultimate rival for him is the three-headed dragon that looks straight from hell itself, King Ghidorah, a creature that looks more imposing than the Devil himself in a new image that finds him monstrously looming behind an aircraft.
Mothra, Rodan & Ghidorah get their chance to shine in new Godzilla 2 posters
The image was tweeted out by director Michael Dougherty, who has not been shy about sharing glimpses at his movie’s major beasties – as he knows they’re all who we’re paying to see come May. Along with the terrifying photo he used a quote from the Book of Revelation (Chapter 13:1), “And upon his heads the name of blasphemy...” This isn’t to say he’s hinting at some deeper religious content in the movie, but rather -- and to tinker with Samuel L. Jackson’s line from the end of PULP FICTION -- just sounds like some cold-blooded shit to say to people before a three-headed dragon eats all our asses.
The most recent trailer for the movie, which showed Ghidorah in action as well as Mothra and Rodan, teased an epic-looking blockbuster movie wherein the whole movie looks like that one amazing airdrop sequence from the first movie. In fact, the trailer was so amazing we placed it second on our list of the best trailers of 2018 because, even though the first movie was a bit of a disappointment, there’s no way anyone is going to avoid this monster mashup after seeing the tremendous chaos this one has in store.
A new trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters roars to life online
Also having a much larger cast than the last movie to match the increased amount of monsters, KING OF THE MONSTERS stars Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Sally Hawkins, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, Zhang Ziyi and Charles Dance. Directed by Dougherty and co-written alongside Zach Shields, the movie stomps into theaters May 31, 2019.
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity's very existence hanging in the balance.
